Busy and Productive?

This post really is for myself – it is a “picture album” in words of weekends this summer:
June 7th – Study for my final exam on the 10th.
June 14th – Attended a wedding of a high school friend
June 21st – Traveled to NYC via Megabus and hung out with a super nice (and attractive guy).
June 28th – Was in the middle of climbing one of the High Tatra Mountains in Slovakia with my old roommates from France
July 5th – Hanging out with my Cousin in England, watching the Dutch just barely lose against Argentina
July 12th – Leading a kayak trip down the Clackamas and Willamette with 4 teenagers as part of my “final exam” to become a Water Scout Leader
July 19th – Hung out with my friend visiting from Virginia and Picked a huge box of peaches, and went to dragonboat practice.
July 26th – Picked 8 pounds of blueberries and 2 pounds of raspberries on Sauvie Island
August 2nd – Climbed South Sister in Oregon in the middle of the night

….
I was listening to the radio a couple weeks ago and there was a question during a talk show that really resonates with this list: “How many people do you ask how they are, and they respond ‘So busy!…’. But how many of those people are actually being productive, maybe we should try to be less busy and more productive”. So naturally, I ask myself: am I being just busy, or is my summer actually productive? What does productive mean?

Anyone have any ideas? Some people say it depends on the society. But if it is that, then the western culture essentially sets you up for an unproductive life, because we tend to want more, do more, until… we find a balance or burn out. Thus is the challenge. How to balance without burning out, wanting a little more, but not too much in too little time. We must learn to be patient, and given a bit of tenacity, we can attain those goals.
